Reading the result
A monthly price says what a subscription costs. The cost per use says what you get for it. Two subscriptions at the same price can be very different value: one you open every evening, one you have not opened since the first week.
The number that matters most is the one for a month you would call normal. If the cost per hour or visit is higher than you would pay for a single one, either use it more or cancel it and pay when you need it.
With a one-off price filled in, the result also shows how much use the subscription needs a month before it beats paying each time. Below that point, paying each time is cheaper.
Common questions
- Should I count hours or times?
- Hours suit things you use for a stretch, like streaming, music or a course. Times suit things you use in visits or sessions, like a gym, a class or a delivery pass. Pick whichever you can estimate honestly.
- How do I know how much I use something?
- Many apps keep a record: screen time on your phone, the watch history of a streaming service, your listening stats, the check-ins at a gym. A rough figure from last month is enough to see where a subscription stands.
- What should I put as the one-off price?
- What one hour or one visit would cost you without the subscription: a single gym entry, renting one film, a single class. Leave it empty if there is no pay-as-you-go option.
