Password generator
A strong random password, made on this page. It is never sent to us or saved anywhere.
Made in your browser · Nothing stored · No sign-up
How this generator works
Every character is picked by your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, the same source browsers use for encryption keys. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is kept after you leave, and the password is not part of any analytics.
The strength reading is the password’s entropy: how many guesses an attacker would need if they knew exactly how it was made. It is a property of this random method, not a score for passwords you made up yourself.
The safest password is one you never have to remember, so save it in a password manager rather than writing it down or reusing it.
Common questions
- Is the password sent anywhere?
- No. It is generated by your browser on this page and is not sent to us or stored. Closing the tab is the end of it, so save it in your password manager before you leave.
- How long should a password be?
- Longer is stronger. For an account you care about, 16 characters or more from all four groups is a sensible floor, and a password manager makes the length free.
- Why avoid look-alike characters?
- Characters such as I, l, 1, O and 0 are easy to misread when you have to type a password by hand, for example on a TV. Leaving them out costs a little strength, so turn it on only when you need it.
- Some sites reject my password. Why?
- Some sites cap the length or refuse certain symbols. Shorten the password or untick Symbols and generate again; the strength reading shows what that costs.
