Music & podcasts app
Spotify
Music, podcast and audiobook streaming, free with ads or paid with Premium.
Spotify streams music, podcasts and audiobooks. It started in Stockholm in 2006 as a legal alternative to music piracy, launched in Europe in 2008 and is now available in 184 markets. You can listen for free with ads, or pay for Premium to remove the ads and download music to listen offline.
Your playlists, liked songs and listening history are tied to your Spotify account rather than to a device, so they follow you between the phone, the computer and the speaker. That also makes the account page on the Spotify website important: it is where you restore deleted playlists, sign out of other devices and download a copy of your data.
01Is Spotify free?
Spotify’s free plan plays music and podcasts with ads and gives you fewer controls than Premium. Premium removes the ads and lets you download music to play offline. It comes as Individual, Student, Duo and Family plans, priced in your country’s currency.
02How to start using Spotify
- 1
Install Spotify on your phone or computer, or open open.spotify.com in a browser, and sign up with an email address or a Google, Apple or Facebook account.
- 2
Pick a few artists when asked. Spotify uses them to start your recommendations.
- 3
Search for a song, artist or podcast and tap + to save it to your library.
- 4
Make a playlist with Create, then Playlist, and add songs from their … menu.
- 5
With Premium, turn on Download on a playlist to listen without a connection.
03Is Spotify safe?
