Short answer
Open the page and click Share at the top right. Type the person’s email address, choose their access level from the list, and click Invite. They get an email with a link to the page.
Guests need a Notion account: someone outside your workspace joins as a guest and has to sign in, or sign up for free, to open the page.
Below: the steps, what each access level allows, and the difference between inviting a guest and sharing the page with a link.
Invite a person to one Notion page
To invite someone to a Notion page, use the page’s Share menu. The invitation covers that page and the pages inside it, not the rest of your workspace.
-
Send the invitation
Open the page and click Share
Open the page you want to share. Click Share at the top right of the page. A menu opens with an email box at the top and the people who already have access underneath.
-
Type their email address
Type the person’s email address in the box. If they are already in your workspace, Notion suggests them as you type. Anyone outside it will join as a guest.
-
Choose an access level
Use the list next to the email box to choose Full access, Can edit, Can comment or Can view. Only Full access lets them share the page with others.
-
Click Invite
Click Invite. The person receives an email with a link and appears in the page’s access list. Guests have to sign in to Notion, or sign up for free, before the page opens for them.
-
Check and change access later
Change or remove someone’s access
Click Share again on the page. Next to a person’s name, open the access list to change their level, or choose Remove to take them off the page.
A typical case: a client reviewing a project plan. They get Can comment, so they can leave notes on each section without changing the plan itself.
Invite people to the smallest page that holds what they need; they see that page and its subpages, and nothing else.

When the invite does not work as expected
- They cannot open the page from the email
They need a Notion account with the same email address you invited. If they signed in with another address, invite that one instead.
- The person became a member instead of a guest
Your plan has reached its guest limit, so Notion added them as a member of the workspace. Remove a guest you no longer need, or check your plan’s guest allowance.
- They can see subpages you meant to keep private
Inviting someone to a page also gives them its subpages. Move the private subpage out, or open its Share menu and limit its access separately.
What each access level allows
Four levels cover everything from reading to running the page.
| Access level | Read | Comment | Edit | Share with others |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Can view | Yes | No | No | No |
| Can comment | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| Can edit | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Full access | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Can comment is the useful middle ground for reviewers. They can mark up a page without being able to change it, and every note shows who left it.
Guests and members are not the same
Notion treats people differently depending on whether they belong to your workspace.
- Members are part of the workspace. They can see shared teamspaces and pages open to the whole workspace.
- Guests are invited to specific pages only. They see those pages and their subpages, nothing else.
Most invitations to people outside your company, family or team create a guest. The Free plan allows a limited number of guests; when you go past it, new invitees become members instead, which gives them more than you may intend.
Inviting, linking and publishing
Notion has three ways to let someone see a page, and they reach very different audiences.
- Invite by email: one named person, at the level you choose.
- General access: everyone in your workspace, only invited people, or anyone on the web with the link.
- Publish: the page becomes a public website, and search engines may find it.
For one person, an invitation is the safest. Publishing suits pages meant for anyone, such as a public FAQ, and nothing private.
The page is shared
Inviting takes a minute. What protects the rest of your notes is picking the right page and the lowest access level that works.
Share the smallest page, start with Can view or Can comment, and check the subpages before you send. If you have not built the page yet, start with creating a page in Notion.
Notion sharing questions
- Does the person I invite need to pay for Notion?
- No. A guest can sign up for a free Notion account and open the pages shared with them.
- Can they see the rest of my workspace?
- No. A guest sees only the pages they were invited to, and the subpages inside those pages.
- What is the difference between inviting someone and copying the link?
- An invitation gives a named person access. A copied link only works for people who already have access, unless you change General access to anyone on the web with the link.

Correction: Corrected the test record to name who performed the steps, with each tester’s platform and device.
Before: Steps performed by Elias Brandt. Elias performed the steps in this guide.
Now: Steps performed by Elias Brandt and Daniel Okonkwo. The earlier record named only Elias. Daniel ran the Mac steps on a MacBook Pro; Elias ran the Windows and web steps. Each tester is now listed with the platform and device they used.
When you need this
If you want a colleague, a client or a family member to read or help with one Notion page, invite them to that page without giving them your whole workspace.
